The left side reads:

A secret's inside
To get where it resides
Three buttons exist
Start with what's simplest
For your last press
Select the middle to finish the test
Puzzle Box is an installation piece placed in public buildings. When the correct combination of buttons is pushed the latch on the side unlocks allowing for a person to press a small red button which rings a bicycle bell. While the box is unlocked the person also has the opportunity to dismantle or break the device.
During one of Puzzle Box's exhibitions at the University of Oregon, a student attempted to report the structure as a bomb to campus police.
